Mahadevi Shailputri, Anandvan, Varanasi
Day of visit Oct-26-2020
I had been planning a visit to this Mandir for some 10. Its about a 3 kilometers walk from my home. Finally reached there in the evening on Oct-26, 2020 along with a friend. I have become a great believer in the saying that you can only visit a Mandir as and when the deity himself calls you. It has happened to me many a time.
The Mata Shailputri Mandir
is on the banks of the Varuna river in Varanasi and the area is called Anandvan. You can feel the sheer beauty of the area that must have existed during the Dharmika era in Varanasi. It is still a very beautiful place especially during the rains when the clear water predominates the secular filth flowing in the river.
The Mandir is maintained by a family and therefore you can feel the spiritual attraction of the Mandir which is sadly missing in Mandirs maintained by sarkari/government trusts.
Visit the Mandir during the morning or the evening. Stay for at least an hour(we stayed for some 2 hours). Look up the campus. There are murtis of the Devi, also murtis of Shri Rama, and many Shiv Lingas.

Some beautiful paintings adorn the Mandir, and the bells are covered with chunris. Its a great place for the kids to go around so take them along.
Prasad, flowers, coconut and chunaris are available in the area so you need not take these things from your home.

Devi Shailputri is to be worshipped on the first day of Navratri.
The mandir however is open everyday of the year.
