THE KARDAMESHWAR MANDIR, VARANASI
The Kardameshwar Mandir is the first stop of the Panchkoshi pilgrimage. The oldest surviving Mandir in Varanasi. The Shikhara of this Mandir is the only one that survived the Islamic and British Invasions. Kardameshwar Mahadev is a must visit.
CREATION OF RISHI KARDAM AND THE OTHER PRAJAPATIS.
Rishi Kardam is one of the Prajapatis created by Brahma Ji. Bhrigu, Marichi, Atri, Daksha, Kardam, Pulastya, Pulaha, Angira and Kratu are some of the Prajapatis. Rishi Kardam and Dharma were created from the shadow of Bhagwan Brahma.
Brahma created Rishi Marichi from his eyes, Rishi Bhrigu came from his heart. Rishi Angira came from his head,Rishi Pulaha from his Vyan Vayu and Rishi Pulatsya from his Udana Vaya. Rishi Vashishtha the Rajguru of Ayodhya came from his Samana Vayu. Rishi Kratu from his Apan Vayu. Atri Rishi descended from the ear of Brahma. Narada came from the lap of Brahma. Another Prajapati was Daksha.
MARRIAGE AND CHILDREN OF RISHI KARDAM
Brahma Ji ordered Rishi Kardam to tapasya and accordingly the Rishi undertook Tapasya. After this Rishi Kardam was married to Devahuti the daughter of Manu and Shatrupa. Rishi Kardam and Devahuti were the first couple to undertake creation in the earthly way. The Rishi couple had nine daughters.These were Kala, Anusuya, Shraddha, Havirbhu, Gati, Shanti, Krita,Khyati and Arundhati. The daughters were married off. Kala to Marichi,Anusuya to Atri, Shradha to Angira, Havirbhu to Pulasatya, Gati to Pulah, Shanti to Atharva, Krita to Kratu,Khyati to Bhrigu, and Arundhati to Vasistha.
SHRI KAPILA MUNI THE SON OF RISHI KARDAM AND DEVI DEVAHUTI
Shri Vishnu himself took birth as the son of the Rishi couple.Kapila Muni preached Adhyatma Yoga to his mother Mata Devahuti. Rishi Kardam took sanyas leaving aside the grihastha ashram.
